45th International Choral Competition "C. A. Seghizzi"

Last Sunday in Goriza in Italy the 45th international choral competition »C. A. Seghizzi« was concluded. It lasted three days from 6th to 9th July 2006 and is considered one of the five most challenging choral competitions in the world. 41 choirs from 18 countries across Europe, United States and Japan took part in this competition. 9 different categories were available for choirs to participate in, and their performance was monitored and evaluated by an eight-member jury.

Zbor sv. Nikolaja participated in the competition too, and presented its musical interpretations from the renaissance, romance as well as modern music and gospels. The choir performed a piece by Uroš Krek »Večer« and a piece by the renowned composer Damijan Močnik »Adventus Spiritus Sancti«, written exclusively for Zbor sv. Nikolaja. This piece was first performed at the concert in Zavod sv. Stanislava in Šentvid by Ljubljana on 2nd July.

As the sole Slovenian choir, it was placed among the best choral performers right after the Svanholm Singers Choir (Sweden) and the Cantemus Mixed Choir (Hungary). Obtaining 89.2 points and third place, the Zbor sv. Nikolaja Litija was included among the 7 choirs (of 41) to receive a certificate and an award for an excellent job.

This accomplishment in the face of hard competition adds yet another stone in the mosaic of choir's achievements. It represents a new milestone which will, with the youthful energy of the singers and their never-ending longing for growing quality of musical interpretations, surely bring new surprises and gifts to all friends of choir singing across Slovenia.

Musical ambassadors of Zbor sv. Nikolaja and its choir master Helena Fojkar Zupančič have finally awaited their deserving holidays. Their latest achievement puts them along side of the best, and it will echoes for some time, but their effort and hard work will remain hidden to all except them. Loyal companions of the choir are already wondering about the choir's activities in the coming year, when it will celebrate its 10th founding anniversary. We wish them all the success and pleasure in their future exploits.
